Celebrating Youth Leading Change: LOVE Quebec’s Earth Day Clothing Swap 🌎✨

On April 26, LOVE Quebec, in collaboration with The Centre Greene, hosted an incredible Clothing Swap to celebrate Earth Day!

Youth aged 12 to 25 from across our programs and the greater Montreal area came together to take action for the planet through sustainable fashion and environmentally conscious fashion choices.

With the fashion industry responsible for 10% of global emissions and 35% of microplastics in our oceans (according to the David Suzuki Foundation), it’s more important than ever to rethink how we consume clothing, especially in the landscape of endless fast-fashion.

At the swap, participants had the opportunity to donate preloved pieces, swap, and pick out free clothes, shoes and accessories in a variety of sizes and styles. There was also a booth where youth could learn basic hemming, sewing and styling skills, all while learning about sustainable fashion practices and connecting with friends in a safe and welcoming space.

It was inspiring to see so many young people, who care deeply about climate change, taking positive action and leading by example. As LOVE continues to empower young people to become active agents of change, it is important to remember that taking small steps, even in the ways we dress, can have a huge positive impact on the environment. Events like this remind us that community and sustainability go hand in hand!

A huge thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and made this day such a success! Together, we proved that making eco-friendly choices can be simple and powerful.
